Financially, the Village of Cardington is not a typical small town.  The Cardington economy, while traditionally based on agriculture, has diversified in the last decade through growth in the automotive industry.  This growth has resulted in significant increases in income tax revenue, property valuation, and population.

Annual property value growth of 18.1% since 1996 is primarily a product of the emergence of Cardington Yutaka Technologies (CYT), a Honda parts subsidiary, as well as residential investment. Similarly, employment growth at CYT has led to a sharp increase in income tax revenues, which have grown from $168,952 in 1996 to $725,498 in 2006. Cardington's population, which is currently estimated to be 2,023, has also demonstrated modest growth of 1.7% annually since 1997.

In 2006, the Village of Cardington had total revenues of $2.45 million.  $1.2 million of these revenues were collected by the Village's water and wastewater utilities, which are enjoying significant revenue growth due to a four year rate adjustment plan, as well as strengthened management practices.  This growth in revenues is allowing the Village to actively replace critical infrastructure, and formulate plans for future expansion.

Property Valuation

The assessed property tax valuations within the Village of Cardington increased by an average of 12% between 2003 and 2006 from 30,139,060 to 33,731,630. Total residential valuation increased by 29% while commercial and industrial valuation increased by 10.5%.
